Though some people prefer to remain single, society on the other hand pressurizes them to get married. However, people are waiting too long to get married unlike in the olden days.

Whether you are single by choice or found yourself in that situation due to unavoidable circumstances, being single can be beneficial to you. Read on to discover why it might just be one of the best things that ever happened to you.

1. Boss of Your Own Time-First Benefit of Being Single

Being single has several advantages in your life. You don’t need permission from anyone to visit places. You can visit your family members and stay with them for several days or weeks without hurting anyone. Moreover, you can make decisions abruptly without factoring in anyone else. For instance, you can wake up one morning and travel to a certain place without considering another person’s opinion.

Anytime you want to do anything, you are free to, without trying to fit in another person’s schedule. Isn’t that awesome?

2. Being Single Means Better Health

Research shows that being single translates to more health. You will have a more flexible schedule that can accommodate time for physical activities. At the same time, you will strive to look good perhaps to attract the opposite gender. Regularly, you might find yourself visiting the gym to keep fit.

Being Single entails cooking what you like without factoring in another person’s preferences. For instance, you will prepare your favorite meal day in and day out.  You won’t have to prepare meals that make you lose your appetite just to please anyone.

3. Good nights sleep

This is very important to your health. You should sleep at least seven hours of uninterrupted sleep. This will leave you in a good mood throughout the day as well as keep your body healthy.

Being single, you have little or no interruptions from your sleep. There is nothing as troublesome as sleeping with someone who snores. Single people have no such experiences.

I have a friend who is married to a drunkard and she tells me that her nights are not those that one would want to have. She has to wake up in the wee hours of the night to open the door for her husband, besides serving him food.

In addition to that, she sleeps in the smell of alcohol. To add salt to injuries, the husband starts snoring immediately after he enters the bed.

4. Better social life

Did you know that many people lose most of their friends the moment they get married? This is because most of their attention is directed towards their partner.

Being single does not mean life full of loneliness and stagnation. You can thrive in singlehood and enjoy life more than married people do.

Generally, if you are a single man, you socialize with anyone. You don’t need permission to be out with any kind of friends. On the other hand, if you get married, you have to be careful when making friends. Especially if it is with someone of the opposite gender.

5. Less stress

Singlehood means less stress. You don’t have to worry about your spouse cheating on you or flirting with other people. Therefore, you live a stress-free life.

In most cases, you can postpone doing some of the house chores without the fear of annoying another person. You will not worry about the dirty dishes that you left in the sink. The unwashed or messy bedroom and dirty clothes that you never washed because you needed some rest.

Nowadays, there are no dramas. You no longer struggle to cope with a dramatic partner. “why did you do this? why did you do that? is no longer part of you. You are now at peace. No more stress of being kicked out in the middle of the night because you did not cook good food etc.

Some couples fight to the extent of hurting each other. Am sure you have heard of stories where one spouse kills another as a result of disagreements.

6. Being single, more Freedom

You are now the boss of your own life, and not tied to anyone. There is no more borrowing permission to go to birthday parties, baby showers, or any kind of celebration. You can socialize with whoever, wherever, or whenever you want.

Flirting with people of the opposite gender feels good. Being single, you can flirt with whoever you want up to late at night without remorse. You might also choose to have some drinks and dance to your favorite songs without creating any drama in the house. There will be nobody to demand an explanation for the perfume on your shirt or a text message that popped into your phone.

Nevertheless, your dress code is not dictated by anyone. There will be no one in your house to tell you that the dress is too tight or too short. Generally, you are free to wear what pleases you.

I remember when I was young, my dad would sometimes tell my mom to change the dress that she wore because it didn’t appeal to him. I also remember seeing the disappointment on her face. Being Single, your dress code is not dictated by anyone. Your dress, your choice.

Single people are better placed when it comes to spending their money. There is nobody to control your finances or dictate what you should buy. Sometimes in marriage one has to cheat that a certain appliance was given as a gift and not bought to avoid conflict.

Conclusion

Although Singlehood has its disadvantages, everyone’s decision needs to be respected. One may choose to stay single or get married. Remember, being single may not be by choice. One may have run away from an abusive marriage.

In my opinion, society is unfair to single men and women because it treats married people with more respect. When one exceeds a certain age without getting married, society thinks that the person has a problem. The truth is, that some people prefer being single by choice.
